Appropriate Adult

On occasions a young person may be arrested while living with a carer.

The Police may ask the carer to attend the Police station as an "appropriate adult" while the young person is interviewed.

The carer should not undertake this unless they have had specific training under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act.

It is always preferable to suggest the young person's parents, Youth Justice worker or solicitor are present if the carer is not confident or trained in this area of work.
