Criminal Injuries Compensation Award and Detailed Application Guidance

Please note: Any decision to seek legal advice/involvement must be in line with Court Proceedings Procedure, Access to Legal Services Costs within Proceedings.

This guidance sets out the process to be followed when giving consideration to making or supporting an application for a Criminal Injuries Compensation Award, which is a government-funded scheme designed to compensate blameless victims of violent crime in Great Britain. The Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (CICA) administers this scheme and decides all claims.

To access the Hertfordshire guidance on the CICA scheme and application process, please see the Children Looked After Finance Framework - HCC ( page on the Intranet.

In September 2019, this chapter was removed from the manual and can be found on the Hertfordshire Intranet.
