Using this Manual

This 'Quick Guide' must be read before accessing the body of the manual.

Welcome to this latest edition of the online Hertfordshire Social Work Procedures Manual. This manual is fully integrated with the Hertfordshire Safeguarding Children Partnership Child Protection Procedures and navigation between the manuals does not require the reader to enter and leave the respective websites.

This is the latest edition of the Social Work Procedures Manual produced by tri.x.

2. New and Updated Chapters

In this latest edition of the manual a number of chapters have been added or amended.

3. Timetable for Planned Updates

The next scheduled review of this manual is timetabled for publication in September 2024. Any amendments to currently published chapters must be set out using the "track changes" feature of MS Word.

Any urgent amendments (e.g. emanating from a Complaint or Serious Case Review) can be implemented at any time.

4. Local Resources

This manual contains a local resource section which can be accessed via the navigation bar. This library is populated and maintained locally. If there is a resource that you think should be added talk in the first instance to your manager.

5. Glossary, National Contacts and Search

Glossary and National Contacts

The manual is accessed by readers who may find terms that they are not familiar with. Therefore, a glossary of definitions is available under the resource tab.

There is also a National Contacts resource populated with details of key national agencies and organisations likely to be relevant to procedures user.

We have provided a Search function, available from the button on the menu bar. This will enable you to search for Chapter/Procedure titles and sub-sections within Chapters.

It will provide the best results if you know the title of the chapter or sub section, or if you have a good idea what the title is.

You may have to try different or alternative spellings/terms before you get the result you are looking for.

6. Regulatory Compliance

Every effort has been taken to ensure regulatory compliance. If you discover any errors or omissions, please alert your manager.

7. Register for Updates

This website aims to achieve Double-A conformance to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines in accordance with government guidelines. In order to change font size or manual colour use the highlighted 'Accessibility' button at the top right hand corner of any page.

10. Printing and Retaining Copies

The Manual is intended to be viewed on line to ensure only the most up-to-date version of procedures are being used. It will be updated regularly so, in the unlikely event there is a requirement for hard copies they should be destroyed after 72 hours.

This manual has been tested on a variety of mobile devices to ensure that it displays correctly. If you are using an older mobile device it is possible that the manual will not display correctly.
